Dubai issues social media rules for doctors, health facilities and influencers: bans misleading claims

## New Regulations for Healthcare Advertising

Dubai's healthcare authority has introduced comprehensive social media guidelines for doctors, clinics, and influencers. These rules aim to prevent misleading medical claims and apply to all Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licensed facilities and professionals using platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

## Restrictions on Language and Titles

The regulations prohibit the use of exaggerated terms such as "miraculous" or "safest" in advertisements. Additionally, healthcare professionals must adhere to the titles specified on their DHA licenses, disallowing terms like "Cosmetic Specialist" or "Beauty Expert."

## Influencer and Content Approval

Social media influencers promoting healthcare services must have their posts approved by the medical director of the facility they are endorsing. The facility is responsible for any content filmed on its premises, even if posted from personal accounts.

## Patient Consent and Content Limitations

Written consent is required before using patient images or testimonials in advertisements. For minors, parental consent is necessary. The use of before-and-after photos is regulated to ensure authenticity, and filming surgeries for promotional purposes is banned.

## Ensuring Ethical Advertising

The DHA's guidelines aim to maintain trust in Dubai's healthcare sector by banning ads that create unrealistic expectations or exploit patients' lack of medical knowledge. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to uphold ethical standards in medical advertising.
