Grand Canyon flash floods: 2 dead, 1 still missing after monsoonal downpour

## Tragic Floods Hit Grand Canyon

A sudden monsoonal downpour led to devastating flash floods in the Grand Canyon, resulting in the deaths of two men and leaving one person still missing. The floods occurred on the northern side of the canyon, affecting popular hiking areas such as Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch.

## Rescue Efforts

Rescue operations have been challenging due to continuous heavy rains. However, by Monday, park rangers had managed to contact most of the individuals who were initially unaccounted for. A total of 82 people were rescued over the weekend.

## Infrastructure Damage

The floods caused significant damage to the Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies water to the park. This has led to water restrictions and a ban on certain types of fires in the park's most visited areas. Additionally, footbridges were destroyed, complicating access for hikers.

## Visitor Safety

Despite the tragedy, the Grand Canyon remains open to visitors. However, park staff are advising caution due to the potential for sudden weather changes. Flash floods are common in this region during the monsoon season, which runs from July to mid-September.
