The Sharjah Al Maleh Festival recently concluded, drawing significant crowds to Dibba Al Hisn. This event, organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dibba Al Hisn City Municipality, focused on reviving the UAE's rich maritime heritage. Over 80 exhibitors participated, including more than 50 productive families, 10 companies specializing in fishing equipment, and around 20 government and private entities.
## Showcasing Maritime Skills
Visitors were treated to demonstrations of traditional boatbuilding, sail-making, and fish salting. These skills have been vital to the survival of coastal communities in the UAE for generations. The festival highlighted the traditional practice of Al Maleh, which involves salting and preserving fish, alongside other seafaring professions.
## Educational and Cultural Insights
Attendees had the opportunity to learn about traditional fishing equipment and methods used to prepare, salt, and preserve fish. Local fishermen shared their knowledge of fishing grounds, seasonal patterns, and techniques passed down through generations. ## Preserving Cultural Heritage
