## Return of US Diplomats to Middle East
American diplomats and some of their family members are starting to return to US embassies in the Middle East. This comes after many were evacuated during the initial stages of the conflict with Iran. The State Department is easing staffing restrictions as the six-month limit on departures approaches.
## Changes in Embassy Operations
While most embassies are not yet at full capacity, the State Department has begun lifting certain restrictions. This move is primarily driven by human resources policies that limit how long diplomats can be away from their posts while still receiving pay and benefits.
## Specific Embassies Affected
Embassies in Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain have announced the return of diplomats' family members, although in Bahrain and Kuwait, this applies only to those over 18. Earlier, family members of US employees in Israel and those over 21 in Lebanon were also allowed to return.
## New Status for Embassies
To manage the situation, the State Department has introduced a "restricted operations" status. This allows embassies to resume normal functions while determining appropriate staffing and family presence on a case-by-case basis.
## Ongoing Adjustments
Diplomats and their families were initially ordered to leave several countries in the region. Changes in status for some of these embassies are expected soon. The State Department remains committed to supporting its workforce and their families during this transition.
