India and Kuwait agree to strengthen defence cooperation

## Joint Defence Committee Meeting

India and Kuwait have taken a significant step in strengthening their defence relationship by holding the first meeting of the Joint Defence Committee (JDC) in New Delhi. This meeting aims to operationalize the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation, signed during the Indian Prime Minister's visit to Kuwait in December 2024.

## Areas of Cooperation

The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in various sectors such as military training, exercises, military medicine, and defence industry partnerships. The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad from India and Brigadier General Raed Alsakran from Kuwait.

## Delegation Visits

Ahead of the meeting, Brigadier General Alsakran paid tribute at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The Kuwaiti delegation also visited Defence Public Sector Undertakings in New Delhi to explore potential areas for mutual cooperation with the Indian defence industry.

## Historical Ties

India and Kuwait have maintained warm relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1962. The relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2024, supported by geographic proximity, historical trade links, and a significant Indian community in Kuwait.
