## Rising Death Toll and Missing Persons

The devastating floods along the Nepal-Tibet border have resulted in at least 538 confirmed deaths, with over 1,400 individuals still unaccounted for. Among the missing are hundreds of foreign nationals, including tourists and pilgrims.

## Rescue Efforts and Challenges

Rescue operations are ongoing, but the challenging terrain and risk of further flooding complicate efforts. Nepal has requested international financial aid but maintains that its security forces are currently managing the rescue operations. However, they are open to seeking specialized foreign assistance if necessary.

## New Threats from Overflowing Lake

Chinese authorities have expressed concerns over a lake formed by the disaster, which poses a high risk of breaching. This could lead to additional flooding downstream, further endangering rescue efforts and local populations.

## International Response

The situation has drawn international attention, with countries like the United States offering assistance. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping has chaired meetings to address rescue operations in Tibet, highlighting the ongoing risks from glaciers and geological hazards.

## Impact on Foreign Nationals

The disaster has affected numerous foreign nationals, with reports indicating about 90 US citizens are among the missing. Other countries with missing citizens include Singapore, Germany, Russia, and several others.
