Dubai Airports set to pick up pace after tough first half sees 31% traffic drop

## Traffic Decline in First Half

Dubai International Airport (DXB) experienced a significant drop in passenger traffic during the first half of 2026, with numbers falling by 31.3% to 31.5 million compared to the same period in 2025. Aircraft movements also decreased by 32.1%, totaling 150,600 for the first six months. Cargo throughput saw a 28.7% decline, handling 751,340 tonnes.

## Signs of Recovery

Despite the challenging start, the second quarter showed signs of recovery. Passenger numbers increased monthly, from 3.5 million in April to 5 million in June. This improvement coincided with international airlines resuming operations and enhancing connectivity.

## Investment and Future Plans

Dubai Airports is focusing on a substantial investment program to support future growth. This includes upgrading passenger facilities, expanding self-service options, and implementing advanced biometric systems. These initiatives aim to streamline operations and enhance the passenger experience.

## Outlook for Second Half

Looking ahead, Dubai Airports expects a stronger performance in the second half of 2026. The recovery is anticipated to be driven by the rebuilding of airline networks, increased international transfer traffic, and a busy schedule of global events in Dubai. Analysts predict that, barring further disruptions, passenger numbers could approach pre-conflict levels by the end of the year.
