Emirates changes Skywards Miles expiry rules from 2027

## New Expiry System

Starting June 1, 2027, Emirates will implement a new expiry policy for Skywards Miles. Under this revised system, Miles earned will remain valid for three years from the date they are acquired, regardless of whether they are earned through Emirates flights or partner activities. The expiry date will be rounded to the end of the month in which the three-year period concludes.

## Current System vs. New System

Currently, the expiry of Skywards Miles is linked to the member's birth month, which can lead to different expiry dates for Miles earned on the same day by different members. The new system aims to provide a more uniform and predictable expiry period for all members, simplifying the process of tracking Miles expiry.

## Impact on Existing Miles

The change will not affect Miles already in members' accounts or those earned before June 1, 2027. These will continue to expire according to the existing birth-month-based system.

## Membership Growth and Tier Changes

Emirates Skywards has seen significant growth, with over 38 million members by the end of the 2025-26 financial year. Additionally, Emirates is temporarily easing tier requirements until August 31, 2026, allowing members to retain or upgrade their membership tier with reduced Tier Miles or qualifying flight requirements. Eligible members can also earn a 20% bonus on Tier Miles for qualifying travel completed by the end of August 2026.
