## Incident Overview
A seven-year-old student from an ashram school in Maharashtra's Palghar district has passed away after experiencing severe fever and breathing issues. The child, a Class 1 student, initially received treatment at a local Primary Health Centre (PHC) on August 22. However, when his condition worsened, he was transferred to a Rural Hospital in Manor, where he was declared dead after an ECG.
## Health Response
Following the incident, 26 other students from the same school were hospitalized with symptoms such as cold, cough, and fever. These students are currently under medical observation at the Maswan PHC, with their conditions reported as stable. A medical team has conducted a thorough health screening of all students at the school, which houses 395 residents.
## Official Visits and Concerns
Senior health and administrative officials, including Integrated Tribal Development Project Officer Vishal Khatri, have visited the school and health center to assess the situation and meet with affected families. This tragic event has intensified scrutiny over the safety and health standards at Maharashtra's ashram schools.
## Broader Context
This incident follows a recent tragedy where three tribal girls died from snakebites at another residential school in Maharashtra. Over the past two years, 584 students have reportedly died in state-run and government-aided residential facilities across the state, with causes ranging from snakebites to serious illnesses and accidents. These events have raised significant concerns about the overall safety and health conditions in these educational institutions.
