Emirates tops global airlines in international capacity in August

## Emirates Tops in International Capacity

In August, Emirates emerged as the leading global airline in terms of international capacity, offering over 31 billion available seat kilometers (ASKs). This figure places the Dubai-based carrier significantly ahead of its competitors, with a 21% higher capacity than Ryanair, which ranked second with approximately 25.7 billion ASKs.

## Global Airline Rankings

United Airlines secured the third position with around 22.8 billion ASKs, followed by Turkish Airlines at 21.5 billion. Qatar Airways and Delta Air Lines were next, with 21 billion and 17 billion ASKs respectively. British Airways, American Airlines, Air France, and Lufthansa also featured in the top ten, with capacities ranging from 15.3 to 15.9 billion ASKs.

## Significance of ASKs

ASKs are a crucial metric for assessing airline capacity, calculated by multiplying the number of available seats by the distance flown. This measure is particularly relevant for long-haul operations, reflecting both seat availability and flight distance.

## Recovery and Expansion

The ranking highlights Emirates' extensive long-haul network and its role in the recovery of Dubai's aviation sector post-disruption. The airline has been gradually restoring international capacity as passenger demand rebounds, despite ongoing challenges in some routes due to geopolitical tensions.
