UAE identifies six health insurance violations by employers

## Identified Violations

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has pinpointed six key violations by employers regarding health insurance for private-sector employees and domestic workers. These include not enrolling workers in health insurance, failing to renew policies, and requiring workers to pay for their insurance. Additionally, some employers provide inadequate coverage or cancel policies while work permits are still valid.

## Consequences and Compliance

Non-compliance with health insurance regulations can lead to administrative fines and work permit penalties, as per Cabinet Resolution No. 21 of 2020. The Ministry emphasizes that health insurance policies must meet basic coverage requirements, remain valid throughout the work permit's duration, and not be cancelled prematurely.

## Public Consultation

MoHRE is conducting a public consultation to gather feedback on health insurance for workers, aiming to enhance the system's effectiveness. The consultation, open until September 1, seeks input on insurance priorities, coverage categories, and challenges faced by employers and workers.

## Health Insurance System

Launched in January 2025, the health insurance system offers a competitive premium for workers and their families, covering a wide range of healthcare services. The system is electronically linked to work permit processes to streamline verification and reduce paperwork.
