A Chinese national, identified as Chun, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Seoul Central District Court. Chun was found guilty of orchestrating a large-scale hacking operation that targeted wealthy South Koreans, including BTS member Jungkook.

## Details of the Fraud

The court found Chun guilty of fraud and violating information network laws, resulting in the theft of over 38 billion won (approximately $27.2 million). The operation involved stealing personal data to activate mobile phones and drain victims' financial accounts.

## Lack of Remorse

The court highlighted Chun's deliberate targeting of affluent individuals and noted his lack of genuine remorse as significant factors in the sentencing.

Prosecutors revealed that Chun was part of a broader international criminal network operating across borders, including Thailand. The scheme ran from August 2023 to January 2025.
