## Fatigue Concerns for Fasting Drivers
Medical experts in the UAE have raised concerns about the impact of fasting on drivers, especially on the busy Dubai-Sharjah route. Dr. Adel Al Sisi from Prime Hospital in Dubai warns that fasting can lead to lower blood sugar and dehydration, which may reduce alertness and slow reaction times.
## Peak Risk Periods
Data indicates that the highest number of accidents occur between noon and 6 pm, with a peak from 2 pm to 4 pm. The period just before iftar is particularly risky as fatigue and irritability increase. Late-night driving after insufficient sleep also poses significant risks.
## Safety Recommendations
Dr. Al Sisi advises drivers to ensure they get 6 to 7 hours of sleep, leave early to avoid rushing, and maintain calm driving habits. He suggests taking mental breaks, practicing deep breathing, and avoiding aggressive driving. If drivers feel dizzy or severely fatigued, they should stop driving.
## Nutritional Advice
A balanced suhoor with complex carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats, along with adequate hydration, can help maintain energy levels. At iftar, gradual rehydration and a balanced meal are recommended. Drivers should avoid sugary foods, excessive caffeine, and heavy fried meals to prevent energy crashes and dehydration.
