## Investigation into Zelenskyy's Office
Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies have launched an investigation into senior officials within President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office. This announcement comes shortly after the dismissal of the country's defense minister, who has called for national elections despite the ongoing conflict with Russia. The probe aims to uncover a criminal organization allegedly involving current and former lawmakers, as well as high-ranking officials from the presidential office.
## Political Challenges for Zelenskyy
This investigation adds to the challenges faced by Zelenskyy, whose administration has been under scrutiny for corruption. Last year, his chief of staff resigned amid a major graft investigation, and scandals involving state-owned enterprises led to the resignation of key ministers. The European Union has highlighted corruption as a significant barrier to Ukraine's EU membership aspirations.
## Calls for Wartime Elections
Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, recently removed from his position, has publicly called for elections in Ukraine. He argues that the country needs a democratic process even during wartime, despite Zelenskyy's stance that elections cannot occur under martial law. Fedorov's statement has sparked debate, but it remains unclear how much support his call for elections will garner among Ukrainians.
## Government Reshuffle
Following Fedorov's dismissal, Ukraine's parliament has approved Yevhenii Khmara as the new defense minister. This decision effectively ends any immediate prospects for Fedorov's return to the role. The reshuffle is part of Zelenskyy's efforts to balance the interests of different factions within the military and government.
