## Discord Suspends Livestreams
Discord has temporarily stopped livestreaming and video calls in Brazil after a tragic incident involving a 13-year-old girl. The decision follows an order from Brazil's National Data Protection Agency (ANPD), which criticized the platform for not having adequate child protection measures.
## Investigation and Arrests
The incident, described by authorities as a "real-life horror show," led to the arrest of five teenagers and an adult. The group allegedly encouraged the girl to harm herself during a livestream. Discord's co-founder, Stanislav Vishnevskiy, stated that the harmful actions were coordinated across multiple platforms, not just Discord.
## Platform's Response
While Discord complies with the suspension order, it continues to offer audio calls and direct messaging in Brazil. The company is working to enhance safety features and restore livestreaming capabilities soon.
## Broader Context
Brazil has been increasing online safety measures for minors, requiring platforms to link accounts of users under 16 to their parents. The country's Supreme Court has also been active in combating online misinformation.
