## Opening of Tupac Shakur Murder Trial
The trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, accused in the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, has commenced in Las Vegas. Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, is alleged to have orchestrated the killing as an act of revenge after his nephew was beaten by a rival gang.
## Prosecution's Argument
Prosecutor Binu Pilal told the jury that Shakur was involved in a public altercation with Davis's nephew, Orlando Anderson, on September 7, 1996. Just hours later, Shakur was shot in a drive-by attack. Although Davis did not fire the weapon, he allegedly provided the gun and ordered the shooting.
## Davis's Confessions and Defense
Davis has reportedly admitted his involvement in various interviews and in his autobiography. However, he now claims these admissions were exaggerated to sell books. Davis, who denies all charges, faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
## Historical Context
Shakur's murder is one of the most infamous unsolved cases in America, linked to the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry of the 1990s. The trial revisits the conflict between Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records, involving figures like Marion "Suge" Knight and Sean "Diddy" Combs.
## Case Revival
The investigation gained new momentum after Davis's memoirs were published in 2019, where he described his presence in the car from which the fatal shots were fired. However, he did not specify who pulled the trigger. All other occupants of the vehicle are deceased.
