UAE summer heat to gradually ease as Suhail rises on August 24

## Suhail Star Marks Seasonal Transition

The UAE is set to experience a gradual decline in summer heat with the appearance of the Suhail star on August 24. This celestial event, significant in Arab tradition, signals the start of milder weather and the beginning of the farming season.

## Astronomical Significance

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, notes that temperatures typically start to decrease after August 20. However, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist until the end of September, often accompanied by morning fog.

## Cultural and Environmental Impact

The rise of Suhail, also known as Canopus, has long been associated with seasonal changes. Farmers prepare for the agricultural season, and fish migrate closer to the coast as sea temperatures drop. This period also marks the onset of Al Safriya, a time traditionally linked with beneficial rainfall.

## Visibility of Suhail

Suhail can be observed about 40 minutes before sunrise, appearing above the south-eastern horizon in the central Arabian Peninsula. Its annual appearance serves as an important seasonal marker in the region, following its disappearance in early May.
