## Unlikely Tourist Attraction
In Kishangarh, Rajasthan, a massive marble waste site has unexpectedly become a popular destination for tourists and creatives. Known for its marble-processing industry, Kishangarh produces large amounts of waste, which is deposited over an 82-acre area. This site receives over 5,500 tonnes of marble slurry daily from more than 1,200 processing units.
## Photogenic Landscape
The white marble waste creates a landscape that resembles a snow-covered valley, attracting couples for pre-wedding photos and filmmakers for unique backdrops. Horse riding across the mounds is also a common activity. Social media has played a significant role in popularizing the site, with many comparing it to snowy mountain scenes. Rainwater forms blue pools between the white piles, adding to the visual appeal.
## Environmental Concerns
Despite its beauty, the site poses environmental challenges. Authorities have expressed concerns about dust and groundwater contamination. Studies indicate increased salinity and hardness in the groundwater, along with traces of heavy metals. In response, the National Green Tribunal of India has mandated measures to improve waste management and promote the reuse of marble slurry.
The juxtaposition of the site's aesthetic appeal and its environmental issues highlights the complex nature of industrial waste sites becoming tourist attractions.
