Thumbay Group: Three decades of transforming healthcare and education

## A Legacy of Growth

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Thumbay Group has evolved from a single medical college into a leading academic healthcare network in the UAE. Initially invited by Ajman's ruling family to establish a private medical college, Dr. Moideen launched Gulf Medical College in 1998, which later became Gulf Medical University (GMU).

## Expanding Academic Excellence

GMU is now recognized as the top private medical university in the Gulf, offering over 50 accredited programs across seven colleges. It hosts around 5,000 students from 111 countries and collaborates with more than 70 international institutions. The group invests approximately Dh10 million annually in research grants.

## Comprehensive Healthcare Network

Thumbay Group's healthcare system includes academic hospitals, clinics, diagnostic labs, and pharmacies, treating over 19 million patients from 175 nationalities. Thumbay Medicity in Ajman, a 25-acre facility, features the 350-bed Thumbay University Hospital, the largest private academic hospital in the region.

## Future Developments

The group is expanding with projects like a psychiatric and rehabilitation hospital in Sharjah, a veterinary teaching hospital, and a research center at Thumbay Medicity. The upcoming Thumbay Medicity Dubai is expected to create 1,000 jobs. Additionally, the group has partnered with Geneva College to introduce the UAE's first academic program in longevity medicine.

Dr. Moideen reflects on the group's journey, emphasizing its commitment to innovation and growth in medical education.
