## New Airport Operations

Starting August 17, all commercial flights to and from Visakhapatnam will operate from the newly built Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport located in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district. The airport retains the VTZ code previously associated with Visakhapatnam Airport at INS Dega.

## Transition Details

The existing Visakhapatnam Airport will cease scheduled commercial operations for 30 years but may still be used for military and emergency purposes. Passengers should now plan their journeys to Bhogapuram, which is outside the city.

## Transportation to Bhogapuram

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has launched 20 air-conditioned electric buses to connect Visakhapatnam with Bhogapuram Airport. These buses operate from 4am to 10am, with fares set at Rs400 from Gajuwaka via NAD Junction and Rs300 from the RTC Complex.

## Facilities and Capacity

The new airport features a 77,342 square meter terminal with integrated passenger services, including advanced baggage systems and AI-enabled services. It can initially handle six million passengers annually, with plans to expand to over 40 million.

## Infrastructure and Development

Bhogapuram Airport is equipped to accommodate international wide-body aircraft, featuring a 3,800-meter runway and modern airfield infrastructure. Developed by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited, the project cost nearly Rs4,727 crore and was completed ahead of schedule.

## Future Prospects

The airport aims to boost regional connectivity, tourism, and economic growth, with potential for international flights as its network expands. The terminal's design reflects local culture, inspired by the region's flying fish.
