Oman workers must get six months to improve before performance dismissal

## New Guidelines for Employee Dismissal in Oman

In Oman, employers are now required to provide a six-month period for employees to improve their performance before considering termination. This directive comes from the General Federation of Oman Workers, emphasizing the protections under the country's Labour Law.

## Specific Shortcomings Must Be Identified

Before dismissing an employee for inadequate performance, employers must clearly identify the specific areas where the employee is lacking. Simply stating that an employee has not met the required competence level is insufficient.

## Notification and Documentation Requirements

Employers must notify the Ministry of Labour three months before terminating a contract due to performance issues. Employees are encouraged to keep records of their performance evaluations and any steps taken to address identified shortcomings during the improvement period.

## Legal Recourse for Employees

If an employee believes that the dismissal process was not legally followed, they can challenge the decision. Complaints must be filed with the relevant authority within 30 days of receiving the termination notice.
