## Coping with Tragedy
Aryna Sabalenka, a top-ranked tennis player, recently shared how the sport helped her navigate a challenging period following the death of her former boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov. Koltsov, a former NHL player, passed away in March 2024 at the age of 42. His death was ruled a suicide by the Miami-Dade Police Department.
## Returning to Tennis
Despite the emotional turmoil, Sabalenka chose to compete in the Miami Open shortly after Koltsov's passing. She faced criticism for her decision to return to the court so soon, but she explained that focusing on tennis was essential for her mental health. "Tennis really saved me from depression," she stated, emphasizing that staying active helped her manage her grief.
## Support from Her Team
Sabalenka's coach, Anton Dubrov, highlighted the team's efforts to support her during this difficult time. He noted that Koltsov had been involved with the team and was always considerate of what was best for Sabalenka.
## Honoring Her Father
This was not the first personal loss Sabalenka experienced. Her father, Sergey, died in 2019, and she has since dedicated her career achievements to his memory. Sabalenka expressed pride in honoring her family through her successes on the tennis court.
