## New Legislation Targets AI-Generated Content
Singapore has introduced a new law to combat online sexual abuse, specifically targeting the creation of explicit images using artificial intelligence without consent. This legislation, effective from Monday, aims to protect individuals from non-consensual AI-generated pornography.
## Legal Consequences for Offenders
Under the new regulations, producing intimate images without consent, including those generated by AI, is now a criminal offense. Offenders could face up to two years in prison, a fine, or both. If the images involve minors under 14, the penalties increase to mandatory imprisonment and may include a fine or caning.
## Broader Scope of the Law
The law also addresses the issue of grooming minors abroad for sexual abuse. Offenders who travel from Singapore to commit such crimes will face harsher penalties, with potential jail terms of up to seven years if the victim is under 14.
## Legislative Intent
Home Affairs Minister Sim Ann emphasized that the law seeks to reduce obstacles to enforcement and curb the production of AI-generated abusive materials. This move is part of a broader effort to break the cycle of online sexual exploitation.
## Changes to Corporal Punishment
While Singapore still permits judicial caning for serious sexual offenses, the new legislation will make corporal punishment discretionary for crimes like piracy and attempted robbery, rather than mandatory.
