## Joint Venture for AMCA Programme
Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce have announced a partnership to design and manufacture engines for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. This collaboration aims to enhance India's self-reliance in aerospace and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" initiative.
## Strategic Intent
The partnership will focus on developing indigenous combat engines for the AMCA, a fifth-generation stealth multirole fighter jet. The joint effort is seen as a significant step towards building a robust aerospace ecosystem in India. However, the financial details of the investment were not disclosed.
## India's Defence Modernisation
India, one of the largest arms importers globally, is prioritizing the modernization of its defense forces. The country has been working to reduce its reliance on traditional suppliers like Russia by increasing domestic production and collaborating with countries such as the United States and France.
## Recent Defence Approvals
Recently, India approved the acquisition of military equipment worth billions, including missiles and electronic warfare systems. The focus on domestic production extends to the navy, with plans for locally built ships and submarines. India's current defense budget stands at $85 billion.
