## Arrests and Security Measures
Moroccan authorities have detained several individuals suspected of encouraging mass illegal crossings into the Spanish territories of Ceuta and Melilla. This action follows anonymous social media posts urging people to gather for such crossings on August 15.
## Increased Vigilance
The Interior Ministry has intensified security measures to prevent any attempts to breach the borders. Those arrested have been handed over to judicial authorities, and security around routes leading to the enclaves has been reinforced.
## Background of Migration Pressure
Ceuta and Melilla, located on Morocco's Mediterranean coast, are the only European Union land borders with Africa. Ceuta, in particular, has experienced increased migration pressure, with irregular land arrivals rising significantly in early 2026 compared to the previous year.
## Previous Incidents
This is not the first time Morocco has faced mass crossings organized via social media. In September 2024, thousands attempted to cross into Ceuta following similar online calls, leading to the arrest of 152 individuals for inciting illegal migration.
## Joint Efforts with Spain
In response to the latest calls, both Morocco and Spain have bolstered security around the enclaves to prevent another large-scale movement towards the border on August 15.
