## From Expo to Abu Dhabi
Akari Okita, a former Youth Ambassador at the UAE Pavilion during Expo 2025 in Osaka, found her life transformed by the experience. Originally from Japan, Okita decided to move to Abu Dhabi after the Expo, where she now works as a chef in a five-star hotel. She describes this career shift as a natural progression, influenced by her deepening connection with Emirati culture.
## Embracing Emirati Culture
Okita's journey to the UAE was not her first encounter with the region. Her university years included interactions with people from the Arab world, and she had previously visited the UAE as a tourist and for training. She feels a strong sense of belonging, likening her move to returning to a second home. Her admiration for the UAE's national pride and cultural traditions has grown, inspired by the leadership and vision of the country's founders.
## First Ramadan in the UAE
This year marks Okita's first Ramadan in the UAE. Having converted to Islam three years ago, she is observing her second proper Ramadan while working in a professional kitchen. Despite the challenges of fasting while cooking, she manages with the support of her colleagues. Okita advises other expats to trust their abilities and build networks in the UAE, a place she describes as full of opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.
## A New Perspective on the UAE
Fellow Youth Ambassador Takeru Hayashi also experienced a shift in perspective during the Expo. Although familiar with the UAE, his time at the Pavilion deepened his understanding of the country's rich history and traditions. He encourages others to visit the UAE, highlighting the warmth and hospitality of its people, and promises to return himself.
