## Record-Breaking Performance

Italian swimmer Sara Curtis, aged 19, set a new world record in the women's 50m backstroke at the European Championships in Paris. She completed her semi-final race in 26.63 seconds, surpassing the previous record held by Australia's Kaylee McKeown by 0.23 seconds.

## Rising Star

Curtis, who recently won bronze in the 100m freestyle, is now a top contender for gold in the 50m backstroke final. She previously set a short-course European record in the same event last year in Poland.

## Other Highlights

Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom won her sixth European title in the 50m butterfly, marking her 18th European championship win. Romanian swimmer David Popovici claimed his third consecutive European 100m freestyle title with a record time of 46.56 seconds.

Germany's Johannes Liebmann set a continental record in the men's 800m freestyle, while Hungary's Hubert Kos won the men's 200m backstroke gold. Britain's Angharad Evans and Ireland's Ellen Walshe also secured victories in their respective events.
