Scotland & Netherlands hit out at ICC over new World Cup format

## Concerns Over New Format

Cricket boards from Scotland and the Netherlands have expressed dissatisfaction with the International Cricket Council's (ICC) new format for the 2027 World Cup. The changes, announced less than 18 months before the tournament, have raised concerns about potential disadvantages for Associate Nations.

## Format Details

The revised structure includes three stages before the semi-finals. Initially, the three lowest-ranked qualifying teams will compete in a Super Series, with the winner joining 11 other teams in the next stage. These 12 teams will be divided into two groups of six, playing a total of 30 matches. The top three teams from each group, along with the best fourth-placed team, will advance to the Super 7 stage, where they will play 21 matches. The top four teams will then proceed to the semi-finals.

## Joint Statement

In a joint statement, Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association voiced their disappointment, stating that the changes could hinder the progress of Associate Nations. They emphasized that reducing opportunities for emerging teams contradicts efforts to expand cricket's global reach and attract new audiences.
