Jollibee looks to slow global expansion plans as higher costs bite

## Expansion Plans Revised

Jollibee Foods Corp., the Philippines' leading fast-food chain, has revised its global expansion strategy for 2026 due to increased costs. The company now aims to open between 1,000 and 1,100 new stores this year, a reduction from the initial target of 1,200 to 1,300 outlets. This adjustment represents a 15% decrease in planned store openings.

## Financial Adjustments

In addition to scaling back its expansion, Jollibee has lowered its capital expenditure forecast to 13-15 billion pesos, down from the previously announced 16 billion pesos. The company also adjusted its operating income growth expectations to 10%-15%, compared to the earlier projection of 15%-18%.

## Continued Growth Despite Challenges

Despite these reductions, Jollibee remains committed to significant growth, planning to increase its store count by approximately 9%-10% in 2026. The company operates over 10,700 outlets across 33 countries and continues to expand its international presence through new openings and acquisitions.

## Financial Performance

Jollibee's financial performance improved in the second quarter, with net income rising by 5.7% to 3.4 billion pesos and revenue increasing by 10.7% to 85.9 billion pesos. This recovery follows a challenging first quarter impacted by inflation. The company attributes its improved profitability to pricing strategies and cost-control measures.

## Market Reaction

Following the announcement of its revised plans and improved financial results, Jollibee's shares rose by 5%, marking their largest gain in over a month. The Philippines' benchmark stock index also saw a slight increase of 0.6%.
