## Incident Overview
An Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi experienced a sudden 300-foot drop during its journey on August 4, 2026. The Airbus A320, carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members, stabilized and landed safely in Delhi. However, the incident resulted in injuries to eight passengers and four crew members.
## Investigation Details
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) of India has classified the event as a Serious Incident and is conducting a thorough investigation. Airbus has dispatched a team of experts to assist with the probe, in line with international aviation regulations.
## Flight Recorders Secured
Authorities have secured the aircraft's Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder for analysis. Air India has stated that it will not comment on the investigation until it is complete.
## Pilot Testing
Both pilots underwent psychoactive substance screening, a standard procedure after such incidents. The Ministry of Civil Aviation noted that the pilot-in-command's test requires further confirmatory analysis, with samples sent to a designated lab. Both pilots have been temporarily removed from flying duties pending the investigation's outcome.
## Ongoing Investigation
The AAIB is conducting the investigation under ICAO Annex 13 guidelines, aiming to determine the incident's causes and prevent future occurrences. Air India and Airbus are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
