Pakistan says Saudi-Tukey defence pact is 'purely defensive'

## Trilateral Defence Agreement

Pakistan has clarified that the recently signed defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkey is purely defensive. The pact, known as the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, was signed on August 7, 2026, by leaders from the three nations in Mecca.

## Defensive Nature

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, emphasized that the agreement is not aimed at any specific country. It is designed to enhance regional peace and security through strategic cooperation. The pact stipulates that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all, aligning with the UN Charter's self-defence principles.

## Open to Regional States

The agreement remains open to other regional countries committed to peaceful relations and mutual respect. Dar reiterated Pakistan's dedication to resolving conflicts peacefully and fostering stability in the region.

## Existing Agreements Unaffected

The Mecca Accord does not replace any existing bilateral or multilateral agreements. It aims to complement ongoing efforts for regional stability and prosperity.
