## Introduction to Irthi Museum
Sharjah has inaugurated the Irthi Museum, the first of its kind in the region, dedicated to contemporary crafts. This initiative by the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council aims to preserve and reinterpret traditional Emirati crafts through modern perspectives.
## A Decade of Craft Revival
The museum's launch is the result of a decade-long effort by Irthi to revive and empower traditional Emirati crafts. It seeks to strengthen the cultural and creative landscape of Sharjah, reinforcing its status as a hub for contemporary craft.
## Museum's Role and Location
Situated in the Sharjah Creative Quarter, the museum is designed to be a permanent cultural institution. It will focus on preserving, documenting, and showcasing the evolution of contemporary crafts in the UAE and the broader region. The museum will also promote research, education, and design innovation, while fostering public engagement with crafts.
## Sharjah's Cultural Heritage
The establishment of the Irthi Museum builds on Sharjah's reputation in cultural heritage preservation, especially after being named a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art. The museum aims to serve as a bridge between traditional techniques and modern expressions, ensuring the continuation of rich craft practices for future generations.
## Leadership and Vision
Reem Bin Karam, Director-General of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, emphasized the museum's role as a living bridge between heritage and contemporary craft, celebrating craft as a dynamic and evolving legacy.
