## Incident Overview
A 36-year-old passenger from Kerala, identified as Jamsheer Athanikkal, was arrested after allegedly attempting to open the emergency exit door during a Batik Air flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi. The incident occurred on Wednesday night aboard flight OD231.
## Emergency Situation
According to reports, Athanikkal damaged the emergency exit window panel and tried to open the door mid-flight, posing a significant safety risk. Crew members and fellow passengers intervened to restrain him, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
## Arrest and Charges
Upon landing safely at Cochin International Airport, the passenger was detained by CISF personnel and handed over to the police. Athanikkal faces charges under several laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal intimidation and the Aircraft Act for compromising aircraft safety.
## Investigation Underway
Authorities are investigating the motive behind Athanikkal's actions. Initial checks have not confirmed any alcohol influence. The incident is being taken seriously due to the potential danger it posed.
## Aircraft Status
Following the incident, the aircraft underwent necessary inspections and repairs before being cleared for further operations. Cochin International Airport Limited confirmed the aircraft has since resumed its services.
