## Appeals Court Decision
A U.S. appeals court has temporarily stopped the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, a project initiated by President Donald Trump. The court ruled that the extensive renovation requires Congressional approval, a decision that Trump plans to challenge in the Supreme Court.
## Legal Battle
The ruling came from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, which agreed with a lower court's decision. The court has given Trump two weeks to seek intervention from the Supreme Court. The decision was split, with two judges appointed by Democratic presidents supporting the halt, while a judge appointed by Trump dissented.
## Project Details
The ballroom, part of a larger renovation plan, was initially justified by Trump as necessary for hosting events. However, it also includes an underground military bunker, raising national security arguments. The project began with the demolition of the East Wing and has faced criticism for its cost, which could reach $600 million, despite claims of private financing.
## Future Implications
This case could set a precedent for presidential authority over White House renovations. It is one of several projects Trump aims to complete before leaving office in 2029, including other significant renovations in Washington, D.C. The ballroom project is the first among these to potentially reach the Supreme Court.
