## Feliks' Journey

Feliks, a rare eastern imperial eagle, has been released back into the wild in Serbia after being rescued from smugglers. The bird was initially captured during its first migration, raising concerns among conservationists.

## Rescue and Rehabilitation

The Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia tracked Feliks' unusual migration path towards the Middle East. His signal was lost in Syria, leading to fears of birdnapping. After negotiations, Feliks was eventually handed over to a wildlife center in Beirut.

## Safe Return

In June, Serbian troops returning from Lebanon transported Feliks back home. He underwent rehabilitation at Palic Zoo before being released near Subotica.

## Conservation Efforts

Eastern imperial eagles are critically endangered in Serbia. Conservation efforts have increased their population from just one breeding pair in 2017 to 29 pairs in 2026. Four new chicks were born this year, named Jelena, Princ, Atila, and Michel, the latter honoring a key figure in Feliks' rescue.
