## Resignation Amid Controversy
Jason Arday, the youngest black professor at the University of Cambridge, has resigned following allegations of plagiarism. His departure comes as the university initiates an investigation into claims that he copied parts of his PhD thesis. Arday, who was also a fellow at Jesus College, announced his resignation with immediate effect.
## Allegations and Defense
The accusations were brought forward by Nathan Cofnas, a US academic, who claimed that sections of Arday's doctoral work were not original. Arday has faced scrutiny not only for these allegations but also for some of his personal achievements, which have been questioned. Despite the controversy, Arday and his supporters argue that the investigation is racially motivated.
## Institutional Response
Cambridge University had previously defended Arday, dismissing earlier plagiarism claims. However, new information has prompted a fresh inquiry. Jesus College is also conducting its own investigation into the matter.
## Public Reaction and Support
The situation has sparked significant public interest, with an open letter supporting Arday gathering over 15,000 signatures. The letter accuses the investigation of being an attempt to undermine influential black individuals. Meanwhile, Arday has acknowledged making academic mistakes but denies being an academic fraud.
## Future Plans
Despite the current challenges, Arday remains optimistic about his future. He plans to take time to heal and has expressed his intention to return to his work. His memoir, "Great and Unfortunate Things," is set to be published soon, with no plagiarism allegations against it.
