## New Mechanism for Medicine Distribution
The UAE has introduced a new system to prevent monopolies in the pharmaceutical sector. The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has mandated that pharmaceutical companies must appoint multiple authorized agents for each product they sell in the country. This change is part of Federal Decree-Law No. (38) of 2024, aimed at ensuring a steady supply of medicines and promoting fair competition.
## Enhancing Pharmaceutical Security
The initiative is designed to strengthen the UAE's pharmaceutical security by diversifying supply chains and improving the availability of medical products. It aims to prevent supply disruptions and ensure that patients and healthcare facilities have continuous access to necessary medications.
## Boosting Investment and Innovation
Saeed bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State and Chairman of the EDE, emphasized that this move aligns with the UAE's strategy to enhance its pharmaceutical ecosystem. The country aims to attract more investment in the sector, encouraging both innovative and generic medicine manufacturing.
## Commitment to Quality and Efficiency
Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of the EDE, highlighted the importance of this regulatory step in improving supply management and adapting to health challenges. The UAE is committed to maintaining high standards in healthcare services and ensuring pharmaceutical security, even during crises.
