## Chasing Clouds, Not Rain
Mohammed Sajjad KP, known as the UAE Weatherman, has developed a unique method for predicting rain in the UAE. Rather than relying solely on radar, which updates every five to fifteen minutes, Sajjad focuses on cloud formations. He uses satellite imagery from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts to identify atmospheric developments that might lead to rain.
## The Role of Winds
Rain in the UAE often results from the collision of two sea breezes: one from the Arabian Gulf and another from the Oman Sea. These winds bring moisture inland, and where they meet, clouds form. Sajjad tracks these interactions to predict where rain will occur.
## Forecasting Challenges
Sajjad's ability to forecast rain varies with the strength of the weather system. Sometimes he can predict a week in advance, while other times only a few hours. Traffic and road conditions can also impact his ability to reach rain spots in time.
## From Kerala to UAE Weatherman
Originally from Kerala, Sajjad moved to the UAE in 2015. Frustrated by radar delays, he taught himself weather forecasting online. He began sharing his predictions in 2016 and gained a following under the name UAE Weatherman in 2022. His accurate forecasts have earned him a significant social media following and a Golden Visa for his contributions.
