## Apple Pay Launches in the Philippines
Apple Pay has officially launched in the Philippines, enabling users to make contactless payments using their Apple devices. This expansion marks a significant step into one of Southeast Asia's rapidly growing digital payment markets.
## Supported Banks and Retailers
The service is supported by major banks including Chinabank, GoTyme Bank, Metrobank, and UnionBank. Customers can add eligible credit and debit cards to Apple Pay for use in stores, apps, and online. Retailers such as Abenson, Ayala Malls, Jollibee, and Rustan's are among the thousands now accepting Apple Pay.
## How It Works
Users can make payments by double-clicking the side button on their iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, and holding the device near a contactless terminal. Apple Pay also facilitates online purchases without the need to repeatedly enter payment details.
## Focus on Security
Apple emphasizes security, stating that card numbers are not stored on devices or servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is used, stored securely in the device's encrypted chip. The company also ensures that transaction information is not linked back to individual users.
## Global Reach
With this launch, Apple Pay is now available in over 90 countries, collaborating with more than 11,000 banking partners worldwide. This move aligns with the Philippines' increasing adoption of digital payments, offering a simple yet secure payment experience.
