Oman reports fewer births and deaths in first half of 2026

## Births and Deaths Statistics

In the first half of 2026, Oman experienced a decrease in both births and deaths compared to the same period in the previous year. The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reported 32,405 live births and 4,590 deaths.

## Breakdown of Births

Out of the total births, 28,828 were to Omani nationals, while expatriate families accounted for 3,577. Among Omani births, there were 14,793 boys and 14,035 girls. Expatriate births included 1,847 boys and 1,730 girls. Notably, births among Omani females saw a 3.7% decline, whereas births among Omani males slightly increased by 0.3%.

## Decline in Deaths

The total number of deaths recorded was 4,590, marking a 7.3% decrease from the previous year. Deaths among Omani nationals fell by 6.6% to 3,646, while expatriate deaths decreased by 9.9% to 944. Female deaths showed a more significant decline than male deaths, with Omani women experiencing a 10.6% drop compared to a 3.8% decrease among Omani men. Expatriate female deaths fell by 16.7%, and male deaths by 8.3%.

## Monthly Trends

In June alone, Oman registered 5,560 live births, a slight decrease from 5,665 in May. During the same month, 736 deaths were recorded, down from 768 in May. The data provided by NCSI is provisional and does not include births and deaths occurring outside Oman.
