## New Zakat Threshold for Dates
The UAE Fatwa Council has introduced a standardized zakat threshold for date harvests, setting it at 541 kilograms of dried dates. This new regulation applies to all date growers and companies across the country.
## Zakat Rates Based on Irrigation
The council has specified different zakat rates depending on irrigation methods. For date palms watered naturally without cost, the zakat rate is 10%. If irrigation incurs expenses, the rate is reduced to 5%.
## Payment Guidelines
Zakat should be paid in dried dates or their monetary equivalent. Fresh dates are not acceptable unless sold, in which case zakat is calculated on the sale proceeds.
## Rules for Date Companies
Companies owning date farms or purchasing unripe dates must pay zakat based on the harvest and irrigation method. If dates are bought post-harvest, they are treated as trade inventory, subject to a 2.5% zakat on trading assets.
## Implementation and Compliance
The council urges compliance with these rules, encouraging payments through official channels like the General Authority of Islamic Affairs. This initiative aims to align religious obligations with local agricultural practices.
