## Sonu Nigam's Royalty Battle
Renowned Indian singer Sonu Nigam has revealed that two major music labels, T-Series and Zee Music, stopped collaborating with him after he advocated for singers' royalty rights. Nigam shared his experience on Komal Nahta's podcast, "Game Changers," stating that his career was affected when he raised concerns about copyright and royalties.
## The Impact of Legal Changes
The dispute centered around the Copyright (Amendment) Act of 2012, which enhanced performers' rights, including royalty protections. Nigam believes this legislation eventually supported his stance, as music labels now pay royalties to singers. He credits legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar for initiating the fight for royalties decades ago, which he continued.
## Previous Controversies
This is not Nigam's first clash with the music industry. In 2020, he accused Bollywood music of being monopolized by a few labels, naming T-Series chairman Bhushan Kumar. This led to a public dispute, with accusations from Kumar's wife, Divya Khosla Kumar.
## Upcoming Performances
Despite past challenges, Nigam continues to perform globally. He is set to headline a concert at London's OVO Arena Wembley on August 23, 2026, as part of "The Revolution Tour." The tour will also visit several Indian cities, concluding in March 2027. Nigam will kick off the tour in Abu Dhabi on August 21, 2026.
