## Incident Overview
A tragic incident occurred when an Indonesian ferry, the Mutiara Sentosa 2, caught fire off the coast of Madura Island. The ferry was en route from Surabaya in East Java to Makassar in South Sulawesi when the fire broke out early Sunday morning.
## Casualties and Rescue Efforts
The blaze resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals, while 41 people remain missing. Rescue operations have successfully saved 225 passengers so far. The ferry was carrying a total of 271 people, including 232 passengers and 39 crew members.
## Rescue Operations
The Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency, known as Basarnas, is leading the ongoing search efforts. The Indonesian Navy and civilian vessels have joined the operation to locate the missing individuals. A nearby cargo ship, Meratus Project 3, identified the ferry's location but could not assist directly due to its flammable cargo.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and will be investigated once rescue operations conclude. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about maritime safety in Indonesia, a nation heavily reliant on ferry transportation across its numerous islands.
