## Dispute Over Reflecting Pool Damage
President Donald Trump has publicly disagreed with U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's conclusion that the damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was due to construction flaws rather than vandalism. This disagreement follows the dropping of charges against former Olympian David Hearn, who was initially accused of causing the damage.
## Trump's Claims
Trump insists that vandals were responsible for the damage, despite acknowledging some contractor issues. He criticized Pirro's decision to dismiss the case, which was initially supported by the Justice Department as part of holding individuals accountable for damage to the landmark.
## Evidence and Investigation
Government lawyers revealed that new documents from the Interior Department indicated the damage resulted from a rushed installation by a contractor. A visual inspection also showed damage in areas unlikely to be targeted by vandals. Pirro, a Trump appointee, stated that the evidence made it difficult to prove vandalism beyond a reasonable doubt.
## Video Footage
Trump shared a video purportedly showing individuals with their hands in the pool, suggesting vandalism. However, the footage, taken from a distance, does not clearly show any wrongdoing, and nearby workers did not react to the individuals' actions.
## Background on the Project
The Reflecting Pool underwent renovations as part of Trump's initiative to beautify the area, including painting the bottom "American flag blue." Problems with the liner emerged shortly after completion, leading to Trump's vandalism claims. The National Park Service reported an incident involving a sharp object cutting the liner, but investigations have pointed to installation issues as the primary cause.
