The climbers, who lost contact with their base camp following the avalanche, include five Nepali climbers, Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi, Omani climber Nathira, American climber Mallory Geis, a Chinese climber named Wang, and another foreign climber. The expedition was led by renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja.

China is working to confirm if any of its nationals are among the missing and has offered assistance. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed readiness to support both its citizens and the Pakistani authorities.

The team embarked on their journey to Broad Peak, the world’s 12th-highest mountain, late last month. This expedition marked Geis' first attempt at an 8,000-meter peak in Pakistan, while it was expected to be Sakhi’s final climb.
