## A Celestial Event in Saudi Arabia
On August 2, 2027, Saudi Arabia will experience a total solar eclipse, a rare event not seen in the region for over 75 years. The eclipse will last for about six minutes, making it one of the longest of the century.
## Path of Totality
The eclipse will be visible across a narrow path, known as the path of totality, which will pass over major Saudi cities including Jeddah, Mecca, and Taif. The shadow will start over the Atlantic, cross North Africa, and then move over Saudi Arabia before heading towards the Indian Ocean.
## Timing and Duration
The eclipse will begin at 11:41 am local time, with total darkness occurring between 1:21 pm and 1:44 pm. Cities like Jeddah will experience nearly six minutes of total darkness, while other areas will see slightly less.
## Viewing Opportunities
For the best experience, observers should position themselves along the center line of the path of totality. Jeddah and the Red Sea coast offer convenient viewing spots with clear skies and ample facilities. The highlands around Abha and Khamis Mushait will provide the longest duration of darkness.
## Safety Precautions
The Saudi Space Agency emphasizes the importance of using certified solar eclipse glasses to safely view the event. Directly looking at the Sun without protection can cause serious eye damage.
## Partial Eclipse in the UAE
While the UAE will not experience total darkness, a partial eclipse will be visible. In Dubai, the Moon will cover about 53% of the Sun, offering a unique, albeit less dramatic, celestial display.
