## Sanctions Target Global Networks
The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against six entities and individuals in China, India, Russia, and Iran. These sanctions target those providing support to Mahan Air, an Iranian airline accused of aiding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
## Mahan Air's Alleged Role
Mahan Air, which claims to be a civilian airline, has been under US sanctions for its alleged involvement in transporting personnel and military equipment for the IRGC, which the US designates as a terrorist organization.
## Treasury's Statement
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that those aiding the IRGC or Mahan Air are sustaining a terrorist enterprise. The Treasury aims to cut these entities off from the US financial system.
## Broader US Strategy
This move is part of a broader US strategy to apply economic pressure on Iran, alongside military measures. The sanctions block the designated parties from accessing the US financial system and warn foreign companies of secondary sanctions if they continue business with the targets.
## IRGC's Economic Network
The IRGC has developed a vast financial network, including state-backed businesses and investment foundations. It is accused of using covert oil sales and shell companies to evade sanctions and support its operations.
