## Advanced Heart Surgery in Dubai
A 55-year-old Indian expatriate in Dubai recently underwent a challenging heart surgery due to severe coronary artery disease. After experiencing chest pain for nearly a week, the patient sought medical help, leading to the discovery of significant arterial blockages.
## Complex Procedure
On June 2, the patient underwent an eight-hour, five-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) at Aster Hospital in Al Qusais. The surgery was performed on a beating heart, a method that avoids stopping the heart during the procedure. This technique, known as Total Arterial Anaortic Revascularisation, uses the patient's own arteries instead of veins from the leg, aiming for better long-term outcomes and reduced stroke risk.
## Surgical Challenges
The operation involved 11 anastomoses, or connections, between arteries and bypass grafts, making it technically demanding. Surgeons also performed coronary endarterectomy to remove plaque and arterial patch reconstruction to repair the affected vessels.
## Successful Outcome
The surgery was led by Dr. Sandeep Srivastava and Dr. Shipra Srivastava, who highlighted the complexity of the procedure due to the patient's extensive coronary disease. The patient recovered well without complications, expressing gratitude for the advanced care received.
## Broader Context
Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of death globally, with significant impact in the UAE. This case underscores the importance of recognizing symptoms like persistent chest pain and seeking timely medical intervention.
