## Government Support for Returning OFWs
In his 2026 State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the government's commitment to assisting returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The support includes livelihood funding, job placement, and employment assistance as part of reintegration efforts for those returning from conflict zones in the Middle East.
## Assistance Programs
Returning OFWs can access various programs such as the AKSYON Fund and the OWWA-Kabuhayan Program for business grants. Job matching services are available through the Public Employment Service Office and specialized job fairs. These initiatives aim to help OFWs either start businesses or find employment, both locally and abroad.
## Large-Scale Repatriation Efforts
The government has safely repatriated over 12,000 Filipinos and provided assistance to more than 140,000 OFWs affected by Middle East conflicts. This includes food, financial aid, medical services, and shelter. The focus is now shifting from emergency responses to long-term recovery and reintegration.
## Importance of Reintegration
OFWs play a crucial role in the Philippine economy through remittances. However, sudden displacements can lead to financial instability. Reintegration programs aim to mitigate this by offering financial aid, livelihood opportunities, and employment pathways, while also encouraging entrepreneurship.
## Future Plans
Government agencies will continue processing reintegration assistance applications and expanding job fairs. Contingency plans remain in place for potential future crises in the Middle East. The goal is to ensure that returning OFWs can rebuild their lives and find sustainable opportunities.
