Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi launches Middle East's first robotic bronchoscopy for early lung cancer diagnosis

## Innovative Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has launched the Middle East's first robotic bronchoscopy system, enhancing early lung cancer diagnosis. This cutting-edge technology allows doctors to biopsy small, hard-to-reach lung nodules without open surgery.

## Advanced MONARCH Platform

The MONARCH™ platform guides a flexible endoscope deep into the lungs with precision, enabling real-time tissue sampling. This advancement is expected to improve diagnostic accuracy and facilitate earlier treatment decisions.

## Procedure Details

The minimally invasive procedure, performed under general anesthesia, typically lasts between 30 and 75 minutes. It aids in detecting Stage 1 lung cancer, which has a five-year survival rate exceeding 70%.

## Broader Applications

Beyond early cancer detection, the platform can diagnose lung nodules from other cancers, benign conditions, tuberculosis, and inflammatory diseases. The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi supports this initiative to enhance medical technology use and early diagnosis.

## Future Potential

The robotic system may also support future treatments for lung nodules, such as ablation therapies, reducing the need for invasive procedures. Currently, its primary benefit is improving early and accurate diagnosis, offering a new tool for detecting lung diseases.
